DAS Solar receives ISO 20400 Certificate: Solar cell and module manufacturer DAS Solar has been awarded the ISO 20400 Sustainable Procurement Management System certificate by SGS. The company claims to be the first in the photovoltaic (PV) industry to receive this certification. It states that it has actively developed sustainable procurement policies and strategies in response to stakeholders’ expectations for sustainability, aligning with the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Guidelines, SA8000 Social Accountability Standard, and ISO 20400 Sustainable Procurement Guidance. This certification signifies that DAS Solar has met multiple requirements in environmental, social, and economic dimensions according to ISO 20400, demonstrating the company’s expertise in sustainable supply chain management.

DAS Solar recently announced the official start of operations at its Jingshan manufacturing base (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Arctech releases existing order status for tracking systems: Solar tracking and installation solutions provider Arctech has released an announcement detailing its tracking bracket system orders. According to the announcement, the company had RMB 6.669 billion ($918.33 million) of total orders on hand as of June 30, 2024, with tracking brackets accounting for 83.21% or RMB 5.549 billion ($764.1 million) of the total. The company says this is an increase of 183.11% year-over-year. Domestic projects totaled RMB 283 million ($38.97 million) while the overseas projects accounted for the lion’s share with RMB 5.266 billion ($725.13 million). Geographically, RMB 2.307 billion ($317.67 million) of its orders are from the Middle East and Africa region, RMB 2.225 billion ($306.38 million) from East Asia and India, RMB 286 million ($39.38 million) from Europe, RMB 170 million ($23.41 million) from Latin America, and RMB 278 million ($38.28 million) from other regions.

In May, Arctech Solar signed a land lease agreement for the land use and construction of its Jeddah factory in Saudi Arabia (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Hunan Red Sun wins bid for copper grid HJT solar cell pilot line: New energy R&D company Hunan Red Sun has announced that it has won a bid for its independently developed PVD copper plating equipment. It will supply this equipment for the pilot line of a leading domestic HJT cell and module enterprise. With advantages like high quality, high efficiency and low cost, the company claims HJT cells with copper grid technology both improve the conversion efficiency of cells and effectively reduce production costs. The company calls it a perfect solution for increasing efficiency and reducing costs of PV power generation and an enabler of HJT mass production.

China’s solar power generation up 18.1% YoY in June 2024: The National Bureau of Statistics has released China’s June 2024 power generation figures. For the month, the country’s industrial power generation totaled 768.5 billion kWh, increasing 2.3% YoY and maintaining its growth rate in May. Average daily industrial power generation was 25.62 billion kWh. From January to June, industrial power generation was 4,435.4 billion kWh, up 5.2% YoY.

The release shows the accelerating decline in thermal and nuclear power generation in June. In contrast, hydropower’s growth rate accelerated, wind power turned positive, while solar power generation’s growth rate slowed YoY. In percentage terms, thermal power fell 7.4% YoY and 3.1 percentage points (PP) from May; hydropower was up 44.5% YoY and 5.9 percentage points sequentially; nuclear power was down 4.0% YoY and 1.6 percentage points from May; wind power was up 12.7% YoY, but down 3.3% sequentially; and solar power was up 18.1% YoY but down 11.0 percentage points from May 2024.

China supports RE in low-carbon transformation of coal power: The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the National Energy Administration (NEA) have jointly issued an action plan that encourages the integration of coal mining with coal-fired power generation and renewable energy sources, and the implementation of green ammonia co-firing demonstrations in large wind and PV bases located in the desert, Gobi and wastelands. They also propose using surplus electricity from wind and solar sources to produce green hydrogen through electrolysis, which is then converted into green ammonia for co-firing in coal-fired power units, and thus replacing some coal usage. After transformation, coal power units should be capable of co-firing over 10% green ammonia, significantly reducing coal consumption and carbon emissions.
