India’s Gautam Solar To Venture Into Solar Cell Manufacturing

INR 10 Billion Investment Planned For Vertical Integration To Capture DCR Market

Indian solar PV module manufacturer Gautam Solar has unveiled plans for vertical integration with a 2 GW solar cell production facility. This cell factory is expected to incur an investment of INR 10 billion ($119 million).

The new cell factory is aimed at meeting the rising demand for domestically manufactured solar panels that will be DCR-compliant.

“Our forthcoming 2 GW solar cell manufacturing plant is aligning with MNRE’s guidelines on promoting indigenous manufacturing of solar cells. We have 27+ years of experience in the solar industry, and we are further strengthening our manufacturing by integrating solar cell production into our existing operations,” said Gautam Solar CEO Gautam Mohanka.

The company already operates 3 module factories in Uttarakhand and 1 in Haryana states. It has also acquired a 60-acre land parcel in Bhiwani, Haryana where it plans to manufacture solar panels and their raw materials.

By 2024-25, it targets to expand its solar module production capacity to 3 GW, expanding it further to 5 GW by 2025-26.

One can expect more Indian companies to opt for solar cell manufacturing in the near future as the MNRE plans to bring solar PV cells under the ambit of Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) list-II (see India Invites Public Consultation On ALMM For Solar PV Cells).
